The End

by Mark Wutka

It was early evening. The sun was just sinking below the horizon, filling the summer sky with a brilliant orange light, with painted streaks of purple. The city hummed quietly, the last of the rush hour jams quietly breaking up into just a trickle of cars. A handsome gentleman walked slowly into his apartment, body weary from a long days work and looking forward to a nice hot mug of TC.

"Hi, honey! I'm home!" he said, as he walked into the living room. There was no answer. He walked to the kitchen, opening up the cabinet and removing a jar of his favorite beverage - fresh roasted TC. He pulled out a filter and opened up the coffee maker. It was there that he discovered it. There was another brand of coffee in the coffee maker. He knew what this meant. He had been ignoring all the signs, but now it was all clear. She would never switch coffees, and that could only mean that there was someone else. The coffee-inspired romance had lost its freshness. He stared sadly into the coffee maker, seeing in each saturated ground another wonderful event in the romance that brewed for all these months. As he stared, he realized what it was he was staring at - grounds for divorce.
