Village Center, Mariefred

The town of Mariefred, meaning "Holy Virgin Mary," got its name from a kartusian monastery founded at the end of the 15th century . The monastery was appropriated by Gustav Vasa in 1526. Demolished in 1537, its bricks were used to build Grips Castle.
