- $$B/: Based-on prizes, followed by number of entries needed to pay full prize fund.
- Bye: Indicates in which rounds half-point byes are available.
- CC: Chess club.
- EF: Entry fee.
- Ent: Where to mail entries.
- FIDE: Results submitted to FIDE for possible rating.
- G/: Game in. Indicates the amount of time that each side has for the entire game.
- GPP: Grand Prix points available.
- HR: Hotel rates.
- LS: Limited smoking.
- Memb req'd: membership required, cost follows.
- NC: No computers.
- NS: No smoking.
- Open Section: Section is open to all players.
- OSA: Other states accepted. Refers to state dues.
- PPHBF: Professional Players Health and Benefits Fund.
- Quad: Four player round robin sections, usually arranged by rating.
- Rds: Rounds. Scheduled game times follow.
- Reg: Registration at site.
- RR: Round robin, preceded by number of rounds.
- SASE: Send self-addressed, stamped envelope for more information.
- SD/: Sudden death time control, followed by the time for rest of game.
- Section: Indicates a division of the tournament into sections, usually by rating.
- SS: Swiss system pairings, preceded by number of rounds.
- Unr: Unrated.
- USEF: Combined entry fee and USCF dues.
- W: Site is accessible to wheelchairs.
