Children's Religious Education

Our goal is to provide an open and nurturing environment for children and adults; to foster the search for personal truths, to guide spiritual and ethical development, and to teach and live Unitarian-Universalism, recognizing that religious education is a life-long journey...

Sunday Curriculum

Infant/Toddler: 0 - 2 years old
Child care is provided for the youngest among us.

Primary: 3 - 6 years old
"Celebrating Me and My World" - Celebrating every child's wonder and amazement with themselves and the world around them. The children explore themselves as special and unique beings; the physical world around them; and other people in their lives.

Elementary: 7 - 12 years old
"UU Super Heroes" - Learning about our UU heritage and history through the words and deeds of famous Unitarian-Universalists like Ralph Waldo Emerson and Emily Dickinson.

Teen: 13+ years old
"Caring for Los Angeles" - Our older youth focus on getting out into the larger community and putting U-U values to work, including collaborating with North Valley Caring Services to take action for people at risk in our immediate North Valley community. (See "Outreach Events with NVCS" on other page.)

Time for all Ages

Youth begin each Sunday in the service with the adults, and then may leave at the appropriate time to participate in the youth program for that day.

Our Teachers

Our teachers volunteer their time to work with and listen to our youth. We encourage you to support our teachers in any way you can. Please share with them any special needs or insights about your youth and share your questions and comments about our program.

Registration

Register youth for the program at our R.E. registration table or our greeters table. There is no registration fee, but all families are expected to support the program financially through their pledge.

Supervision of Youth

Parents/guardians should remain on the grounds while their youth are in class. Your youth can also choose to stay in the service with your supervision.

Safe Congregation Policy

We follow a policy of safeguards to ensure that all contact between our adults, child care providers and youth in our congregation is appropriate. Please read the guidelines you receive when you register your youth for our program.

Scholarships for Leadership Training

Thanks to the extra financial support of some of our members we can now offer some leadership training scholarships to our youth to help with the cost of attending UU youth camps or other events. Ask us about it!

Adult Involvement in Children/Youth Religious Education Programs

Our youth programs depend on the help of the entire Onion community. You can get involved, teaching or assisting, leading a field trip, helping with special projects, or contributing your other special skills. Please talk to a teacher and volunteer!

Our Unitarian Universalist principles and purposes

(child version)

  • Each and every person is important.
  • All people should be treated fairly.
  • Our congregations are places where all people are accepted and where we all learn together.
  • We believe that each person must be free to search for what is true and right in life.
  • Everyone should have a vote about the things that concern them.
  • Care for our planet.
