File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

FTP is a method of transferring files between computers over the Internet, and has been in use for just about as long as the Internet has been in existence. Using FTP to transfer files between your personal computer and other computers on the Internet has become very simple in recent years, due to the wide availability of graphical, user-friendly FTP programs (or 'FTP clients' as they are often referred to).
