CGI Access at WebCom

Web Communications is dedicated to providing lightning-fast serving of your Web site, on servers which are consistently responsive and secure. In order to ensure that we maintain this level of superior service, WebCom does not allow the development or execution of custom CGI scripts on our system.

Instead of requiring, or allowing, our customers to develop their own software for using forms and other advanced server capabilities, we provide standard tools (such as the WebCom Forms Processor) which enable users to quickly and easily create and utilize sophisticated forms applications without any programming. For those who do want to create more sophisticated routing of data from their forms applications, the Forms Processor does provide a very basic scripting language for validating form input and decision making/conditional processing in general. For those who do not want to do any programming, just create an HTML form. Each time the form is submitted, if you have not created a configuration script for the form, its contents are simply emailed to you!

If you've come across or heard about a great cgi script on the net, although we may not be able to install it for you, we do want to hear about it. If we really like it, and/or enough people are asking for it, we'll either incorporate it into our standard service or provide you with an equal (or more likely better) alternative.

In most cases, the cgi scripts floating around the net are typically very simple scripts to accomplish a fairly specific task. Usually, rather than implement a script such as this, we'll look at the general need targeted by the scripts we're being asked to install and create a powerful, general purpose tool to fill that need.
