[an error occurred while processing this directive] Configuring CuteFTP

This page will take you step-by-step through the process of configuring CuteFTP to transfer files back and forth between your local computer and your WebCom account. The following instructions assume that you are already dialed into the Internet (if you are viewing this page live online, then you are already dialed in).

Step 1 - Download CuteFTP

You can download the latest version of CuetFTP from their Web site at http://www.cuteftp.com. If you are running Windows 3.1 you want to download the 16-bit version, and if you're using Windows 95 you want to be sure to get the 32-bit version.

The file you will download will be executable, meaning you can just double-click on the file once it is downloaded to begin the installation process.

Step 2 - Start / Configure CuteFTP

Once you have the program installed and started up, you will be presented with this screen (example screens are from the 32-bit version):

You will be adding your WebCom account as a "new site" to the list of systems which are accessed regularly. Click on the "Add site" button. The screen to configure a new site looks like this::

The correct settings to enter are:

All other settings are optional. When you have entered these values, click on the OK button. You will be taken back to the first screen (see above), and the new session you just created will appear on the right side of the screen, along with "CICA Windows Archive", "GARBO Archives", etc.

Step 3 - Connecting and Moving Files

You can now click once on the session name (as specified in the Site Label setting above) and click on the Connect button at the bottom right corner of the screen. When you do this the program will connect to the WebCom server, and is now ready for you to transfer files back and forth. The screen for doing so looks like this:

As you can see, the screen is broken up into three sections. The top section contains status information, and all the menus and buttons for common tasks. The bottom-left section shows the files on your local computer's hard disk, and the bottom-right section shows your WebCom account. To transfer files between the two computers, you simply click and drag the filenames from one window to the other. One of the key advantages of using CuteFTP is this simple interface, which is very similar to the way the Window's File Manager / Explorer works.

Step 4 - Ending Your FTP Session

To disconnect from the WebCom server simply click on the button, near the top-left of the screen, or select Disconnect from the FTP pull-down menu.
