File Listing Screen
This page is part of the Guide to Using the WebCom File Manager. It provides a detailed overview of the various elements composing the File Listing Screen.
Organization of the File Listing Screen
The File Listing Screen contains the following elements: a list of the contents of the current directory, followed by a small form which enables you to create a directory or file, and a series of hotlinks to various options. File Listing The file listing contains a list of the files and directories stored in the directory displayed at the top of the screen. Each file and directory is preceeded by the following checkboxes:
Warning: A file with public write permission set can be overwritten by an anonymous FTP user by transferring another file of the same name to the directory where the file is located. Files within a directory with public write permissions set may also be overwritten in this manner. As well, new files can be transferred to the directory without your knowledge.
Please read the FTP Access Permissions instructions before altering the default permissions.
Directories have a folder icon next to them, and are shown as bolded hotlinks. Selecting a directory will cause the File Listing Screen to be displayed, with the contents of the selected directory listed. If you have chosen to have directories listed recursively, then selecting any one of the directories displayed beneath the listed directory will cause the contents of the selected directory to be listed.
Editable files have an icon with writing on it next to them, and are shown as regular hotlinks. Selecting an editable file will cause the File Editing Screen to be displayed.
Image files are highlighted, and have an image icon displayed next to them. Clicking on a image file will cause the image to be displayed, either by the browser, or an external program. Note: if the image file is not accessible through anonymous FTP, you will get an error message stating "File Not Found".
Non-editable files have an icon indicating the type of file next to them (if the File Manager knows what type of file they are, otherwise the icon will be blank) and appear as normal text.
Creating a New File or Directory The following actions may be taken by selecting one of the radio buttons: create a new file or create a new directory.Selecting the "Directory" radio button will cause a new directory to be created. This will be placed in the directory listed at the top of the page. Selecting the "File" radio button will cause the File Editing Screen to be displayed, with the name of the new file at the top of the screen. The newly created file will be placed in the directory where it was created.
Hotlinked Options These options are listed in a single line at the bottom of the File Listing Screen, just above the WebCom Logo and copyright notice.
