Description

This page explains how to activate virtual hosting for a domain that is already active and hosted by another ISP (Internet Service Provider) if you do not want to completely Move your Domain to WebCom. This option is available only under the BudgetSite and BusinessSite service plans. Activating virtual hosting for your domain will allow your home page at WebCom to be addressed as simply http://www.your-domain.com/ (provided your ISP also correctly configures www.your-domain.com to resolve to WebCom - more on this below).

If you don't already have your own domain name, this service is not for you. Please see Register New Domain Name. If you register your domain name through your WebCom account, virtual hosting is automatically activated for your domain name, and you do not need to use this or any other form to manually activate it.

Two steps are required to activate your domain name for virtual hosting with WebCom (can be done in either order):

  1. The administrator for the name servers which are hosting (providing nameservice for) your domain name (normally this would be your Internet Service Provider (ISP)) must configure your www subdomain (www.your-domain.com) to resolve to 209.1.28.62. (Tell your administrator that you need a "A" record for www.your-domain.com added to your Domain Name Service, and it should point to 209.1.28.62).
  2. You must activate virtual hosting for your domain at WebCom, using this form. This associates your userid with your domain name, so that the WebCom Web server knows whose account to get pages from when requests for pages at www.your-domain.com are received. For this reason, if you have more than one WebCom account, it is important that you activate virtual hosting for your domain name while logged into the WebCom account with which you want to associate your domain name.

Once both of these steps have been completed, you can load your home page using http://www.your-domain.com/.
