WebCom Domain Name Service (DNS) -- Activate virtual hosting for a pre-registered domain name
This page describes how to use the Activate virtual hosting for a pre-registered domain name service option. To access this or any other domain name service, log in to your account by clicking on "Control Panel" at the left of this page, and then select Domain Name Services from the main menu.
For more information about domain names at WebCom, please see our Domain Name Services documentation.
Description
This Domain Name Service is a form that you can use to activate Web and DNS services for a domain name that you have already registered with the InterNIC and is currently pointing to our name servers. The domain moves to the "registered" status immediately, and you will be able to start hosting pages with it as soon as it propagates to our DNS servers (this takes 3-6 hours). When you fill out this form, nothing will be mailed to the InterNIC to notify them of your register or move, so you may want to verify your WHOIS information before filling out the form.
Though the InterNIC is not mailed initially when you set up your domain here, the template information is still required. This enables you to use our system to perform updates to your InterNIC information, and to use the other InterNIC-related functionality of our system. In order for this to work, you must fill in the template with the information that matches your current WHOIS info. If the information doesn't match, the InterNIC will reject any updates you might want to perform on your domain using our system.
NOTE: This form is for the registration of second level (your-domain.com) domains only. If you would like to create a sub-domain (such as products.your-domain.com) use the Create a Sub-Domain form.
Entering the domain template information
To use this option, fill out the form with the information that you have registered your domain name under, and click on the submit button when you are done. You should take care that the information in the template matches what you currently have on file with the InterNIC. If you later decide to use the "Update InterNIC Info" or "Cancel Domain Name" services, our system will mail the InterNIC on your behalf to perform these functions using the information you enter on this form. If the Administrative contact doesn't match, the InterNIC will reject the update or cancel. The form will make sure that all the required fields are filled in. When you submit the form, virtual hosting and domain name service is activated for your domain.
You new domain will be loaded into our DNS services in about 3-6 hours.
Domain Name Parking
By default, when you register a domain name, it becomes active in your WebCom account, allowing you to create a web site and email addresses for that domain name. Alternately, you can choose to simply reserve this domain name and "park" it. If you choose this option by checking the "Park this Domain?" checkbox the domain will be registered as normal with the normal InterNIC fee, but web and email service is not activated, and WebCom does not charge any monthly fee for the hosting of the domain.
When you wish to use this domain in the future, you can easily unpark it and use it as any other domain name. For more information about Domain Name Parking (including parking and unparking domain names) please see our Domain Name Parking documentation.
Additional Notes
The registration application form is divided into 6 sections. Each section has a hotlink to a help page for that section.
