This page describes how to use the Register New Domain Name service option. To access this or any other domain name service, log in to your account by clicking on "Control Panel" at the left of this page, and then select Domain Name Services from the main menu.

For more information about domain names at WebCom, please see our Domain Name Services documentation.

Description

This Domain Name Service is a form that you can use to initiate the registration of a new InterNIC domain name. This form works exclusively with the InterNIC. For information about registering Non-InterNIC domain names, please Non-InterNIC domain names.

NOTE: This form is for the registration of second level (your-domain.com) domains only. If you would like to create a sub-domain (such as products.your-domain.com) use the Create a Sub-Domain form.

Registering Your Domain

To use this option, fill out the form with the information that you would like the domain name registered under, and click on the submit button when you are done. The form will make sure that all the required fields are filled in. When you submit the form, an application to register the domain name is sent to the InterNIC and virtual hosting is activated for you your domain. These events are shown as an AR (application received) and an AM (application mailed) in the Overview of your Domain Names.

The InterNIC normally acknowledges receiving the application for a new domain name within 24 hours. This event is shown as an AA (application acknowledged) in the Overview of your Domain Names, and means the the InterNIC is processing the registration. If you View the Status of your Domain Name, you will see the NIC-handle (tracking number) that the InterNIC has assigned to this registration. This number is used to reference your application in the unlikely event that you need to contact the InterNIC about your request.

Although we add your domain name to the WebCom DNS servers immediately, it normally takes 1 to 3 days for the InterNIC to process a registration. When the domain is registered, the domain overview shows RG. When the InterNIC has completed the registration and your ISP updates their DNS records to include the newly created domain name, it will become active.

If a week or longer passes without your domain name being registered or rejected, you should contact hostmaster@webcom.com and inquire about the registration. If the overview of your domain shows RG but the domain does not work for you, need to contact your ISP and have them update their DNS records to include the newly created domain.

Domain Name Parking

By default, when you register a domain name, it becomes active in your WebCom account, allowing you to create a web site and email addresses for that domain name. Alternately, you can choose to simply reserve this domain name and "park" it. If you choose this option by checking the "Park this Domain?" checkbox the domain will be registered as normal with the normal InterNIC fee, but web and email service is not activated, and WebCom does not charge any monthly fee for the hosting of the domain.

When you wish to use this domain in the future, you can easily unpark it and use it as any other domain name. For more information about Domain Name Parking (including parking and unparking domain names) please see our Domain Name Parking documentation.

Additional Notes

If your service plan is the WebCom SiteSaver plan, each additional parked domain name costs $9.95 per 24 months. If you are using a BudgetSite, BusinessSite, or WebCommerce service plan, is no additional fee for adding parked domains. For each additional active domain name under a BudgetSite, BusinessSite, or WebCommerce service plan, there is a $9.95 monthly fee.

The registration application form is divided into 6 sections. Each section has a hotlink to a help page for that section.
