WebCom Domain Name Service (DNS) -- Cancel Hosting for a Domain Name

This page describes how to use the Cancel Hosting for a Domain Name service option. To access this or any other domain name service, log in to your account by clicking on "Customer Services" at the top of this page, and then select Domain Name Services from the main menu.

For more information about domain names at WebCom, please see our Domain Name Services documentation.

Description

The Domain Name Cancelation Form allows you to do one of the following:

  1. Cancel your domain name service at WebCom (for moving your domain to another provider).
  2. Do the above, and also cancel your domain name at the InterNIC (relinquish your use of the name).

Use the former option if you're moving your domain name service from WebCom to another service provider. Use the latter option if you're cancelling your use of the domain name altogether.

If you cancel your account at WebCom, the first option is undertaken for you automatically (your DNS at WebCom is shut down, but a request to cancel your domain is not sent to the InterNIC, so the domain name will remain registered to you, in case you want to use it on another network).

The InterNIC normally acknowledges a request to cancel a domain name within 24 hours. You can check to see whether the InterNIC acknowledgement for your cancellation has arrived using the View Status of your Domain Name(s) option on the WebCom DNS main menu. If the acknowledgement has been received, you will see it in the chronology for your domain name on the status page, along with the request number assigned to your request by the InterNIC. The request handle is used to reference your request in the unlikely event that you need to contact the InterNIC about your request.

If you have multiple domain names registered with WebCom, you will be presented with a list of your domain names; click on the one you wish to cancel.

Additional Notes

Please note that if you deactivate a domain hosted by WebCom, all sub-domains associated with that domain will be removed as well.
