Binary File

Binary files contain non-text information, such as formatting codes for your word processor, a graphical image, or a program. Often, FTP clients use ASCII (text) mode transmission by default, and need to be set to binary mode to avoid damaging your binary files. Your Web browser will not have this problem, since it is capable of automatically recognizing that the file being sent to it is a binary file.
