The WebCommerce Back Office

The Back Office is your Headquarters in WebCommerce. Just like in a real store, it’s in the Back Office where you tell WebCommerce (think of it as your employee) how you want your on-line store to be managed and what information and features you want.

  • Store Properties -- Indicate whether your store is ready to accept orders, where your store logo graphic is located, who the store email/phone contact is, whether or not you take credit cards, whether or not you’ll be processing credit cards in real time, etc.

  • Shipping -- Select from 6 different formulas: flat rate, weight threshold, price threshold, percent of order total, per item, or no shipping.

  • Taxes -- Select which states you collect sales tax from and how much.

  • Categories -- Create sections to organize your products to make it easier for your shoppers to navigate through your store. Research shows that the number 2 reason why shoppers will leave your store is because they can’t find what they’re looking for. We recommend you use the categories to organize your merchandise in an attractive and logical fashion to make it easy for shoppers to find what they want to buy.

  • Options and Values -- Create the product options and values you offer such as size (small, medium, large), color (blue and yellow), or flavor (chocolate and vanilla).

  • Products -- In the product database, you will enter product name, SKU, description, full size and thumbnail graphics, up to 4 upsell links to let your shoppers know of other products that they might be interested in, price, weight, etc.

  • Orders -- View how many orders you have, and update their status (void, shipped).

  • Build/Delete “Preview Store” -- Look at your store or any changes you’ve made before you publish it for “real” on the Web. This comes in handy when you’re trying to decide which of the included store templates you want to use (which you can always modify on your own if you want).

  • Build/Delete “Publish Store” -- Where you actually “publish” your store and make it visible on the Web to shoppers.

  • Logout -- This is a particularly useful feature that allows you to log off from WebCommerce so that no unauthorized user can access the Back Office. So if you need to leave your computer for a time, you can easily log off WebCommerce without logging off the Internet. It’s also useful for merchants or developers who manage multiple stores and who need to easily get from store to store (each store has its own login ID and password).

A short word about security: Besides the passwords described above, there are additional levels of security that you don't see and which we can't disclose (for obvious security reasons). You can rest easy knowing that we have taken every precaution to make sure that all your store information, your shoppers' order/credit card information, and your product database are as safe as current technology will allow. Includes such items as SSL encryption.

  • When you choose "Build Store" (whether for a Preview store or a Published store), WebCommerce takes all the information you've entered through the Back Office and automatically builds your store -- in just seconds!
